2) What do you want your domain name to be?
Your domain name is your website's address (such as yourbusiness.com). But you don't want to pick just any name. If you would like, we'll help you pick out the best domain name for your website. Here are a few things to consider when deciding on your domain name.
- You might want to just go with your business name. But if your business name is really long, you'll probably want to condense it in some way.
- The words contained in your domain name can help with search engine placement. You might consider using keywords related to the subject of your website.
- Shorter domain names are almost always better. But the most important thing is that the address is easy to remember.
- Try to make sure your domain name passes the "radio test." If you were to advertise your website on the radio or tell it to someone, would they be able to remember it?
- If you have a choice between .com, .net, .org, etc. — you probably want to go with .com. People just always assume that the address is going to be a .com name.
- Look out for domain names that might be misinterpreted. Say it out loud to see if it sounds like something else. Also, look for word combinations in your domain name that may form interesting and sometimes undesirable new words. See expertsexchange.com for a classic example. 4) What content and pages would you like included?
You will be responsible for deciding what pages and content will be included in your website. Ideally, you will have the text content prepared prior to beginning the project. However, we realize that many clients will need guidance in making these decisions.
- When deciding what content should be included in your website, you must first consider what will most benefit your website visitors. What will make their experience pleasant while visiting your website? Try not to think in terms of what you would like to see, instead think of your target market and decide what would be most suitable for them.
- The second consideration when planning your website content is SEO (search engine optimization) best practices. We can offer guidance in this area.
- You will need to provide the text content and, if necessary, we will edit your text for SEO and professionalism purposes.
- You may provide images for use in your website. If you request additional images from stock image repositories, you will be responsible for any fees incurred.
- You will need to decide what pages you would like on your website, but we will gladly offer suggestions and guidance.
